Conditional ban on WhatsApp in Germany
The German regulator believes that the process of collecting data from WhatsApp customers under the new privacy policy is not legally valid. Germany has imposed a three-month emergency ban on WhatsApp users in the country. News Engadget.
Johannes Casper, head of the Hamburg Privacy Authority, said the new policy was too large and lacked consistency and transparency. He speculates that Facebook has already misused the data and that it could affect Germany's election this year. So it is important to stop this abuse now.
Caspar called on the EU's regulatory body to look into the matter and called for the implementation of laws that apply to all EU member states. Earlier in 2016, he also instructed WhatsApp users to stop collecting data and delete the collected data.
Facebook has denied Casper's claim. The top social media outlet told Bloomberg that the order was based on a misunderstanding of our goals and the impact of the new policy. However, the German ban will not stop WhatsApp's new policy.
Users will have to agree to the new policy by May 15.
